Here are my top three ingredients for fostering a fulfilling career:
In order to love what you do day in and day out of your career, you must have passion. Passion is what will push you past others in a competitive environment. Passion is what will drive you to be the first one in the office and the last one out. Although hard-work may be seen by a few, passion can most definitely be felt all. The second that you feel like you are losing passion in what you do, rethink about the present and future direction of your career as it is proven that there is a positive correlation between passion and results.
2 table spoons of balance
We all must understand that working is a means to an end (the end being supporting yourself and your family through financial measures). It is not the end. Do not forget that outside of your employer’s walls, there is a life to live, people to see and take care of, and things to do. Find balance between your personal life and your career; do not confuse your career with your life. On the same token, do not forget that within your employer’s and/or client’s walls, there is a role you must play. Own your role and do not let anyone else ever have a shot at replacing you at what you do best.
1 teaspoon of risk
If there is no risk, there is no reward. To progress in your career, you will have to make bold decisions and take calculated risks. Whether it may be coming outside of your comfort zone within the workplace or finding your comfort zone within another organization, do not miss out on opportunities to take risks. After all, you grow the most when you are outside of your comfort zone … and we all know that there is no glass ceiling when it comes to professional and/or personal growth.
